About us

who are we ?

The Livestock Development Institute (LDI) was established with the primary goal of ensuring equitable and environmentally sustainable breed productivity, product quality, and market competitiveness in Ethiopia’s livestock sector. Founded in 2022, LDI builds on the foundations of the National Artificial Insemination Center (NAIC) and the National Animal Genetic Improvement Institute (NAGII).

Despite the sector’s economic importance, challenges like low productivity and limited access to quality genetics persist. LDI addresses these issues by focusing on genetic improvement and sustainable breeding practices. Our science-driven approach includes breed enhancement and livestock product processing for cattle, sheep, goats, poultry, and more, ensuring a sustainable impact on the industry.

Our Mission

To provide targeted training and support for breed improvement and livestock product processing, conduct research to enhance sustainable breed supply, facilitate technology transfer, and advise investors in the sector. We aim to deliver high-quality products to both domestic and international markets while increasing foreign currency earnings from the livestock industry.

Our Vision

To be a leading institution in livestock genetics improvement, cattle productivity, and sustainable agricultural practices in Ethiopia.
