From Farm Gate to Market — Building Ethiopia's Livestock Processing Industry
Ethiopia’s livestock sector generates an enormous volume of high-value raw materials; milk, meat, honey, beeswax, eggs, hides and skins, and fiber that currently reach consumers in under processed, low-value forms, or are lost entirely through spoilage and supply chain inefficiencies. Every liter of milk that could be processed into yogurt, cheese, or butter but instead sours before reaching a consumer represents a lost livelihood, a lost investment, and a lost opportunity for nutritional security. Every kilogram of honey that could command a premium export price but instead is sold locally at a fraction of its value is a missed national development opportunity.
